BSA326, FX breakdown reel, 9 November, 2017

My FX breakdown video is done... or is it?  I'm a bit distracted today so I'm able to update my blog and do social media stuff for Doodlebug but not much else.  Tomorrow, after flicks/Southsure is totally over, I will have another look at the lanterns and render out some more shots of stuff in the Warehouse to put into the reel.  On top of the promo video, I've put wireframe, no texture, and texture without lighting screenshots so you can see how much stuff has gone into the IW.

Found out, quite by happy accident, that assigning a colour to each layer shows up in the wire view.  That's handy! Otherwise it's just a confusing mesh of blue stuff.

The view of the Warehouse, undrendered and unlit.

When I have more time, I will organize the IW into areas for filming.  That will bring the file size down and make rendering times faster plus easier to maneuver.  Or maybe I just need to get the camera in there, on the side view and go with it?

If I ever film in this area, I will do a better job of assigning pictures to the frames.  There are heaps of repeats on the side paintings and they're pretty random.  This will be a section that definitely needs it's own file just to keep up with all of the separate texture files!

Jellybean's section needs more attention, more magic.  Fairy lights in the tree?  flowers popping out of the carpet?  Little chairs to sit on, or a hammock?  Also, that clock looks great pre-rendering then totally poops out in Arnold. Such a pain.

This is a filler section.  It currently has no narrative purpose and therefore no meaning behind any of hte stuff on the wall or shelves.  It's just "full" so the camera doesn't see blank spots.  The slight bluish haze over the back wall is the dome light which helps cast a bluish tint to the shadows when rendered.  but does IT make any different in the final result?

This is the area where Girl comes for advice from People Who Know Better: the Garden of Ancestors.  Maybe that's what it is.  If it ever shows up in an episode, Teppy will hang out here because she enjoys some good straight talking.  Something will have to be done about that texture on the topiary; it's awful.  It looks better in grey view!

This is the most lovingly decorated section of the IW because it features in Prickles' and Jellybean's fight in the pilot.  The glass looked great in this view but turned opaque in Arnold, so I threw it out.  besides, it would be in the way while Prickles was hanging up socks so isn't actually needed, is it?  Dr. Picklesniffer's area has not been identified or properly dressed.

Flash's area.  This view doesn't show the 100s of books that are on all of the side shelves.  I ran out of steam about the time that I started stacking them up so they don't create the slope that I was hoping for.  It will need more fleshing out when the time comes.

Another no purpose section.  Maybe it will become Dr. Picklesniffer's surgery and will be full of a collection of objects, like Prickle's area, that relate to medicine or feeling diagnosis.  Some books, jars, medical heads, charts, etc.

A wee shot of the central area.  This could be where Girl starts every episode, or where they end it for their sum up chat.  Screening off the aisles will be necessary so you don't know exactly where you are in relation to the other parts of the IW. Maybe shelves or curtains that mask the aisles off?

The proportions of the IW are a bit unwieldy.  The shelves are very high compared to how wide the IW is.  I probably worry about that too much.  More development can always be done.

An overhead shot that shows where sections are in comparison to each other but give away the mystery of where things are in the IW.  Maybe I worry about that too much.  I'm not trying to copy my visual inspiration piece Warehouse 13's layout, so I shouldn't be caught up in the IW not being a massive set like it is.

At the end of the promo video, after the camera has wandered through the IW, the title sign comes up.  The sign will feature in episodes by trying to give Girl some clues as to where she could, or should go, and be listened to or ignored depending on the story.  It may even herd her down a track if she's being especially stubborn about getting the message.
