BSA324, cloth in Maya and setting up Deadline, 8 June, 2017

good for getting wrinkles in cloth, soft furnishings, water effects

set up floor plane and add a few spheres
go into fx menu
go into load shelf menu if you can't find shelf you need
open N cloth and cache shelf
make sure play time line is on play through
hit t shirt to create ncloth
second creates collidable object
third removes ncloth
put colliding object on floor and n cloth on sphere
in outliner, nucleus comes with every ncloth and that's where you adjust atmosphere effects
nrigid is where floor controls are
ncloth is controls for how the object reacts

anything with an asterisk has hidden presets. under ncloth tab when sphere is selected, presets has options that you can change the sphere to, like beach ball.
can use ncloths to create blend shapes
can't make a figure that is half rigged and half nclothed
to get soft furnishing to puff out, turn up pressure and turn off gravity

always render from a cache
take cache off when done, cache on button is film strip on cache strip and off is the next icon over
it calculates from vertices- every face has a cross through the center and ncloth is makings
shear? resistance- bias cut- how much does the fabric stretch on that diagonal

restrain point icon can restrain two materials, a material to a collision object, one can add a welded seam to it

add polygons to shape, highlight vertices you want to constrain, then select object to be constrained to and hit the icon with two red lines tying the panel window to the blue ball
This flag is low poly so it doesn't have much to react to the wind speed and wind noise slides which have been taken all the way up.

I can make my beanbag in 3D in ncloth and practice dropping it until I get the shape I like.
Once you've got the object configuration that you want, hit duplicate and erase history.  It no longer has the ncloth on it so it's frozen in time.
make two spheres- one nclothed and one rigided to be the bottom of whoever is sitting on it. set key frames for the bum sphere to control where and how hard the sit down happens.  duplicate several out so you can make blend shapes to control the sag in and out as somebody sits down.  do all the texturing before doing the ncloth deformations.  don't try to animate the ncloth object- rigid object works out better.

animate constraints: flag was constrained by several vertices to the pole.  The pivot point was moved to the bottom of the pole and that's the point that was animated.  As the pole moved back and forth, the fabric followed it around.  an artificial plane can be turned on in nucleus. Glue strength can be animated so the flag flies away, and wind strength so it blows it away at a certain point.  The fabric can also be programmed through nuclear to tear off.  A volume access can be added to tear through the cloth and rip it apart from the outside.

Set up file on render farm like normal, set up frame distance and what render wanted in file like normal in Maya, then made sure all textures connected to Y drive so it wasn't looking in D drive, job options- choose priority, name it, choose machines you want to task (use machines that aren't in use) , project directory point it toward maya project, in maya file point it to actual project, in out put folder tell it where to go, tell it how many frames you're doing, specify how many frames go to each computer, tell it what renderer you're using (ok to leave it on file if you're using mental ray), hit submit, OK, then you can watch it rendering on the computers.
