summer research 2015/16, Vesuvius animation, 11 February

Vesuvius covers Pompeii

Animation of the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD destroying Pompeii. The intention is to show the effects of the eruption over the course of 36 or so hours and it looked good, but there was no human element, no story, to really draw the viewer in.  At this point in the video, you can hear the sound of dogs crying in the distance but no people.  In the right hand corner, the Melbourne Museum's logo can be seen.  Perhaps the decision to omit human activity in this video was to prevent the museum patrons from getting upset.  If so, an opportunity to make history compelling was lost.
