BSA202, music cues, 2 March 2016

Bridge: better to come into scene from previous line of dialogue or bit later under dialogue or under action from character than starting music on scene change.
play through: music starts shouldn't be fragmented, play through.  sometimes stopping can emphasize dramatic action, then underscoring can or not continue or change
emphasis shift: less obvious, intrusive and more effect to start when emphasis shifts in scene
music v. sfx: sound should play over music or vice versa to avoid muddle and confusing emphasis and POV
music without dialogue: easy to spot when covering scenes without dialogue.  music up for kiss an down for talk
instincts: watch for emotional or cerebral response.  no response may mean no music needed.
team work: spot music with director, composer, music editor present

practicing in pairs with Pro Tools license
exercise: one that matches scene and another that doesn't quite match
