Rachel: where does your project sit in the world of NZ children's programming? What is the point of difference/similarities? Read the NZ on Air charter so you know what your first port of call for funding is going for. (Follow up with Rachel to get the full name of Ruth? that she mentioned as a good reading resource.)
Kathryn: I find the characters edgy and scary. (This is actually very encouraging. I was worried that my nephew wouldn't be interested in watching my show. He's 6 and watches youtubers describing the plots of horror movies. My sister says that he wants to make horror movies now.)
Peter: Look at The Long Slide children's book by Mr. and Mrs. Smith, it reminds me of your artwork. NZ comedy (referring to Doug's presentation) comes in many facets and what shows up on tv can be quite bland and not funny. The programmers have a very small section of what's acceptable. You can always say that your point of difference is that you ARE different than what's been done so far and you bring an international perspective. (The more I get asked challenging questions like "how does this fit in with NZ" the easier it's going to be for me to answer them. It never occurred to me that "I AM different, what I'm creating IS different than what has been done before" is just as much of an answer as "This is how I'm the same as what has happened before". It's good to do the research and to know what's happening here as this is where I am and to be clear for myself of what I want to create, as well.
